Are you trying to expand your business as rapidly as possible, but few leads are coming through your door?

Often we can’t see the woods for the trees when we run our own business. And this is especially true when it comes to our marketing efforts. The longer we spend creating a new website or planning weeks’ worth of social media posts, the less able we are to tell if we’re going in the right direction.

Are the words right? Are the pages on the website looking good? Are the captions on my Facebook posts the right ones?

We get stuck inside our heads and struggle to see things from our customers' point of view.

Without an outside perspective, we tend to plough on and do what we think’s best. It’s not the best way to do it, but when you’re a small business it can feel like it’s the only way.

However, when ‘ploughing on’ doesn't drive new leads, how do we get the perspective that we need?

Your marketing needs strong foundations or ‘roots’ to get more leads.

These foundational roots are:

1) Your Customer Root

2). Your Brand Root

3). Your Communications Root.

Without these three roots, getting new business consistently is hard.

That’s why an independent perspective helps.

A perspective that:

  • points out the gaps in your marketing before you invest more money in a new employee or contractor to run your marketing

  • gives you a crystal clear view about how to improve your branding, your offer, website, and how you communicate with customers in other media channels

  • gives strategic direction about how to get new customers and keep your existing ones, in a way that works for your size of business, and budget

Introducing: The Roots Marketing Audit.

The Roots Marketing Audit is a detailed report that pinpoints the gaps in your marketing efforts, and gives you clear guidance about what to do next.

The audit analyses the three roots of your marketing:

  1. The Customer Root identifies:

    • what exactly the customer problem is

    • how well are you solving the customer problem

    • how customers are responding to this problem when they see it.

  2. The Brand Root identifies:

    • how strong your brand story is, your team story is and why you went into business

    • how attractive your colour palette, visual design and logo are

    • how compelling your tone of voice is

    • how different you are from your competition

    • the range of products or services under you brand and how well you are communicating them.

  3. The Communications Root identifies:

    • how well your website functions (the copy, the visual design, the journey customers take on your site, the functionality of the site and opportunities to capture visitor data).

    • how strongly your marketing communications (like email, social media activity and blog posts) are attracting customers.

What you’ll get in The Roots Marketing Audit.

  • At the start, a 20-minute kick-off call to discuss the audit process and your needs.

  • At the end, a PDF document containing the detailed written analysis of all your marketing activity.

  • After the audit is complete, you’ll have 30 days in which you can ask me any further questions (by email) about how to apply the findings to your business.

What makes this audit different from any other audit?

After the audit, you get a 45-minute download call explaining everything.

An audit report on its own won’t cut the mustard unless the person who wrote it for you explains the findings to you in person.

Where many consultants email you a report without explaining what they’ve written, you’ll get a 45-minute call with me (via phone, Zoom, WhatsApp, Skype or Google Hangouts) where I’ll explain my findings and recommendations to you.

So you can ask me any questions that you have there and then, and get the most from the report.

You won’t want a report that is written for you, but never explained by the author. That’s why, once you’ve read the report, you’ll get a 45-minute call with me to discuss the findings. We can chat on the phone, via Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom or WhatsApp. I don’t mind which – just not a messenger pigeon like this one above…

Before we start the audit, you need to send me:

  • The correct URL for your website, so I am assessing the correct, most up-to-date website.

  • Examples of all your communications with customers within the past three months. These could be newsletters, paid adverts, links to social media accounts, brochures.

  • 1 to 3 short paragraphs about why you first started your business.

  • 1 to 3 short paragraphs of your plans for the next 12 months.

  • 1 to 3 short paragraphs about your competition, who is your biggest threat and why.

So I’m not like this small, pondering gnome, don’t leave me wondering about why you set up the business, who your competition is, and where you want it to go in the future.

I can do the audit without this information, but to give you the best recommendations, the more input you can give, the better the final report.
